Histology Technician

Description:

Position: Histotechnician / Histotechnologist (HT/HTL – ASCP Certified)

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 4:00 AM start, 40 hours/week (5×8 hr shifts)

Contract Length: 20 weeks

Location: Houston, Texas, 77030


Key Responsibilities

  • Verify specimen identification, type, and size; prioritize workload per protocols
  • Process tissue samples using tissue processors (correct solutions/programs)
  • Embed and section tissue (≥30 blocks/hour) with high quality standards
  • Perform routine and special stains (AFB, MSN, Gram, ORO, etc.)
  • Coverslip slides (≥3 slides/min), label, and distribute for pathologist review
  • Assist with biopsies, fine needle aspirations, and specimen retrieval
  • Troubleshoot and perform inquiry functions (technical/specimen/results)
  • Maintain high-quality output (max one complaint from pathologist)


Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years paid histology experience (hospital/reference lab preferred)
  • Strong embedding and microtomy skills
  • Experience with special stains, frozen sections, and cytology (preferred)
  • Knowledge of lab equipment (tissue processors, cryostats, microscopes, etc.)
  • Good communication, judgment, and multitasking ability
  • Basic computer skills


Education & Certification

  • Required: HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) certification
  • Associate's degree in Science or Histology
  • English proficiency (read/write/speak)
