Pride Health is seeking a Histology Technician/Technologist to join a team in Houston, TX 77030. This is a 3+Months assignment (Possibility of extension or conversion). opportunity and a great way to start working with a top-tier healthcare organization!

Job Description:

Seeking a skilled Histology Technician/Technologist with strong experience in routine histology, special stains, and tissue processing. The candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality histological preparations while maintaining strict turnaround times and quality standards in a hospital laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify specimen identification, type, and adequacy per laboratory protocols
  • Prioritize and manage workload based on turnaround time requirements
  • Perform tissue processing using appropriate programs and reagent sequencing
  • Embed tissue specimens and perform microtomy (=30 blocks/hour) with precision
  • Prepare sections at correct thickness with minimal quality issues
  • Conduct routine and special stains (AFB, Gram, MSN, Oro)
  • Perform coverslipping (=3 slides/min) and ensure timely slide distribution
  • Assist in procedures including liver biopsies and fine needle aspirations
  • Handle fresh specimens across multiple departments (Cryostat, CT, EM lab, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot technical and specimen-related issues effectively

Required Qualifications

  • Certification: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) – Required
  • Education: Associate's Degree in Science or Histology
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of paid histology experience (hospital/reference lab preferred)
  • Strong expertise in:
  • Paraffin tissue processing
  • Embedding and microtomy
  • Routine histology workflows

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with special stains, frozen sections, and non-gynecologic cytology
  • Familiarity with histology lab instrumentation:
  • Tissue processors
  • Embedding stations
  • Microtomes
  • Cryostats
  • Stainers and microscopes
  • Strong problem-solving and multitasking abilities
  • Effective communication and independent decision-making skills
  • Basic computer proficiency and laboratory systems knowledge

Additional Information:

  • Location: Houston, TX 77030
  • Contract: 13 Weeks with possible extension
  • Shift Schedule: Monday–Friday, 4:00 AM – 12:30 PM (8 hrs/day, 40 hrs/week)

Local Pay range: $35-$38/hour

*Offered pay rate will be based on education, experience, and healthcare credentials.

Travel Gross Pay: $1600 - $1760/Week
