Job Summary
The Child Nutrition Substitute assists with the preparation and service of nutritious meals to students in a school setting. This position supports regular staff as needed and helps ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming cafeteria environment while following all food safety and district guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with food preparation, serving, and portioning meals according to established menus
  • Operate cafeteria equipment safely (ovens, warmers, dishwashers, etc.)
  • Serve meals to students in a courteous and professional manner
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, serving lines, dining areas, and storage spaces
  • Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment
  • Follow food safety, sanitation, and health regulations at all times
  • Assist with inventory, stocking, and storage of food and supplies
  • Work cooperatively with cafeteria staff and school personnel
  • Supervise students during meal service as needed
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous food service experience helpful but not required
  • Food Handler Certification it's required
  • Ability to work well with children and staff
  • Knowledge of basic food safety practices (training often provided)
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30-40 pounds
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and reach as required
Work Schedule
  • On-call / as-needed basis
  • Typically during school hours
Work Environment
  • School cafeteria and kitchen setting
  • Exposure to heat, cold, and kitchen equipment
