JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for maintaining the appearance and health of District grounds and landscapes. This position is
also responsible for a variety of outdoor maintenance tasks, and contributing towards ensuring that all school properties
are kept safe, clean, and well-presented.
KEY FUNCTIONS, ESSENTIAL DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Groundskeeping:
1. Regularly picks up trash, cleans grounds, and empties outside trash barrels to maintain a clean and tidy
environment.
2. Performs edging and mowing of all grass areas to ensure well-kept lawns across campuses.
3. Hoes, prunes, weeds, and waters plant areas to promote healthy growth and maintain attractive landscapes.
4. Operates tractors and other landscaping equipment, responsible for the loading and unloading of these machines
and their associated tools.
5. Aerates and fertilizes football fields, practice fields, baseball fields, and other recreational areas to ensure optimal
condition for sports and activities.
6. Plants shrubs, trees, and grass as per landscaping plans or directives, contributing to the aesthetic and ecological
value of the school grounds.
7. Maintains proper drainage systems across all campuses to prevent water accumulation and ensure safety during
inclement weather.
8. Ensures pathways, walkways, and sidewalks within the campus are clear of debris, leaves, and other weather
related elements to ensure the safe passage for students, staff, and visitors.
9. Assists in monitoring grounds for signs of pest infestation, applies eco-friendly treatments, as directed, and assists
in the application of pest control measures to maintain healthy and safe school environments.
10. Identifies and reports safety hazards or damages in outdoor areas to the appropriate personnel, and in
accordance with applicable protocol.
11. Ensures timely and accurate completion of paperwork orders related to grounds maintenance activities, or as
otherwise directed.
12. Assists other personnel within the Department, as needed, or as otherwise directed.
13. Participates in, and promotes, recycling and other sustainability initiatives, as directed.
14. Assists, as directed, in identifying opportunities for waste reduction, and the optimization of environmental
outcomes in daily operations.
15. Participates in special projects, as assigned.
Compliance:
16. Performs all assigned work activities in accordance with standard procedures and protocols established by the
department and District, and in accordance with applicable standards, procedures, protocols, practices, codes,
and requirements as set forth by regulations and governing entities including, without limitation, Texas Education
Agency, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as well
as applicable local, city, and state laws.
17. Demonstrates and maintains relevant and up-to-date working knowledge and understanding of compliance
standards and regulatory requirements relevant to the job function.
18. Monitors respective work activity for variances and anomalies.
19. Identifies and timely reports any known or suspected compliance issues to appropriate personnel.
20. Assists with audits and the preparation for audits, whether initiated internally or externally, as assigned.
21. Adheres to all other District wide policies and procedures including, but not limited to, human resources, safety,
and emergency protocols.
General:
22. Demonstrates support towards the District's Shared Vision, Mission, and Promise 2 Purpose.
23. Assists department leadership in the compilation of miscellaneous confidential reports.
24. Attends departmental and organizational meetings, as required.
25. Participates in continuing education programs and related activities to maintain relevant understanding and
working knowledge applicable to the job function and trade.

27. Performs assigned job duties and responsibilities in accordance with established performance expectations, as

28. Demonstrates general working knowledge and understanding of safe working standards, practices, and
requirements, proper application and handling of pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals, as well as
environmental, water conservation management, and agricultural regulations and standards, and other related
requirements relevant to the job function.
29. Demonstrates general working knowledge and understanding of systems and applications including, without
limitation, Global Positioning System (GPS) and Auto-Steer Systems, Telematics Systems, Irrigation Control
Systems, and mobile apps and devices. Demonstrates general basic working knowledge and understanding of
Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, as well as Google Shared applications to include Google Sheets, Google Docs,
and Google Slides.
30. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
? High school diploma or equivalent GED
? Six months of experience working in a same or similar capacity; or
? An equivalent combination of education and work experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position requires frequent and extensive physical activities that include, without limitation, lifting, bending, and
operating heavy equipment, as well as frequent moving and/or carrying heavy equipment and/or objects of up to 75 lbs.
Additionally, this position requires good physical condition and stamina, manual dexterity, and precise coordination of
hands and eyes. Hearing and visual acuity are also essential to regularly hear across varying distances, and see details at
close range to monitor machine operations meticulously to ensure their safe and efficient operation. The working
environment for this position consists primarily of an outdoor non-climate controlled setting for extended periods of time,
and with frequent exposure to a range of weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, rain, and sleet. Additionally, the
working environment also involves frequent exposure to high noise levels, particularly when operating large machinery,
exposure to chemicals, potential mechanical and electrical hazards, as well as frequent exposure to dust, fumes, and
other elements and materials, some or all of which may potentially be hazardous, and require the use of appropriate
personal protective equipment (PPE).
