Hourly Pay Rate: $16.46 - $17.57
Location: Central Library, 104 1-45 North, Conroe, TX 7730 I
Shift Hours: Monday - Friday (8:00am - 5:00pm) Includes evenings and Saturdays, as assigned
Education, Experience and Skill Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience in genealogy and local history research preferred
• Previous library work experience (volunteer work considered)
• Basic computer skills required. Experience with automated library catalog, Internet search skills and social media platforms
• Strong interpersonal skills, able to work well with library customers and other staff members
• Good communication skills, oral and written
• Ability to organize work priorities
• Ability to accomplish objectives in a team setting
• Physical ability to perform responsibilities as listed
• Must pass background investigation
• Valid TX Driver's License and clean driving record
Primary Job Duties
• Provides excellent customer service to visitors of all ages with their research needs, including group tours, orientation and research instruction, programs
• Assists visitors with the use of computers, standard software, electronic databases and equipment. Ensures technology is performing correctly
• Instructs visitors in the use of all types of media digitization equipment operation and genealogy research methods
• Prepares manuscripts, periodicals, and books for the bindery. Coordinates shipping and receiving, and budget agreements with Administration
• Responds to telephone, mail, and email question, and reference queries
• Maintains the appearance and order of the unit: shelving materials, shifting books, straightening furniture
• Uses Microsoft Office for the maintenance and circulation of unit correspondence, statistics, supply lists and other reports
• Performs in-house book and periodical repairs
• Participates in special projects and events of the unit, including outreach events
• Follows opening and closing procedures of the unit and the library system
• Participate in meetings and training as appropriate
• Works evenings and weekends as scheduled, responding to the librarian in charge
• Performs other duties as assigned
After receiving a conditional offer of employment, applicant must pass a drug screen (1/2 cost = $20.00, responsibility of applicant) and may need a physical agility test (1/2 cost = $22.50, responsibility of applicant) before becoming an employee of Montgomery County.
