Position Summary

The Community Group Pastor is responsible for cultivating a thriving culture of Biblical community at the Tomball Campus by leading, equipping, and caring for Community Group Leaders and members. This role helps ensure that every person at Bayou City Fellowship has the opportunity to grow in their faith through connection, discipleship, and service within a group context.

Key Responsibilities

  • Vision & Leadership

    • Champion the vision of Community Groups as the primary environment for discipleship and connection at Bayou City Fellowship Tomball.
    • Develop and implement a campus-specific strategy for impact of the Community Group ministry that is aligned with the overall vision of the church.
    • Collaborate with campus and global staff to promote spiritual formation, growth, and multiplication through groups.
  • Leader Development & Care

    • Recruit, train, disciple, and support Community Group Leaders.
    • Provide regular coaching, leadership development, and pastoral care for leaders and apprentices.
    • Facilitate leader gatherings and trainings that encourage personal and ministry growth.
  • Group Health & Multiplication

    • Help new and existing church members find and engage with groups that fit their needs.
    • Regularly assess group health through connection, participation, spiritual growth, and care metrics.
    • Encourage multiplication of healthy groups and development of new leaders.
  • Pastoral Care & Discipleship

    • Ensure groups are environments of biblical community, discipleship, prayer, and pastoral care.
    • Partner with pastoral staff to provide care and counseling through the group structure when appropriate.
    • Shepherd group leaders to shepherd their group members well.
  • Men's & Women's Group Ministries

    • Facilitate men's and women's ministries through equipping volunteer leaders.
    • Be the focal point on staff representing these ministries.
    • Enable effective ministry to men and women who may not be part of Community groups.
  • Sunday Mornings
    • Provide vision and spiritual enrichment for Sunday morning hospitality teams (Hosts, Coffee, Parking)
    • Assist in recruiting volunteers for hospitality teams
    • Occasionally give in-service announcements, benediction, etc. from the stage
  • Systems & Communication

    • Maintain up-to-date records of groups and leaders in church database systems.
    • Coordinate group launches, on-ramps, and promotion campaigns in partnership with the Communications Team.
    • Provide resources, curriculum, and tools to equip groups in effective ministry.
Qualifications
  • A clear testimony of personal faith in Jesus Christ and a growing relationship with Him.
  • Agreement with Bayou City Fellowship's Statement of Faith, mission, and values.
  • A heart for discipleship, biblical community, and the local church.
  • 3+ years of ministry or pastoral experience (small group or discipleship ministry preferred).
  • Demonstrated leadership and relational skills, especially in training and multiplying leaders.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in ministry, theology, or related field. Master's degree in theology / biblical studies preferred.
