Salary and Benefits

Annual base salary for newly appointed Border Patrol Agents varies per grade, ranging from $49,739 to $89,518 per year. This position offers a clear path for advancement through a career ladder up to GS-12 level.

Additionally, Border Patrol Agents have access to exceptional federal benefits, including health and dental insurance, generous annual and sick leave, and involvement in the Thrift Savings Plan.

*Recruitment Incentive* Newly appointed agents can earn up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives, with an initial $10,000 payable upon completion of training, and an additional $10,000 for choosing prioritized duty locations.

*Retention Incentive* Agents may also qualify for up to $40,000 in retention incentives distributed over four years.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Border Patrol Agent, you will be a vital part of our mission to protect the American people through various responsibilities, including:

• Investigating and questioning individuals suspected of immigration violations.
• Apprehending undocumented individuals and smugglers while conducting surveillance operations.
• Utilizing physical evidence to track and deter illegal entry.
• Conducting checks on farms, buildings, and vehicles.
• Patrolling borders and coastal areas using various government assets.

Qualifications

Applicants for the GL-5 grade level must meet one of the following:

• One year of general work experience demonstrating decision-making and composure in stressful situations.
• A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
• A combination of relevant experience and education.

For the GL-7 grade level, candidates should possess specialized work experience and related education.

Other Requirements

To qualify, you must be a U.S. citizen, have had primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years, and be under 40 years of age at the time of application.
