Laboratory Manager

The Department of Surgery is looking to recruit a Laboratory Manager for the Eberlin Laboratory for Medical Mass Spectrometry. The Laboratory Manager will be supervising and maintaining the research operation within the laboratory. A major focus of the position will be the general maintenance and operation of laboratory materials, supplies, and equipment, as well as troubleshooting any equipment and protocols as needed.

Job Duties

Responsibilities include:

• Maintaining all laboratory supplies and organization.
• Supervising laboratory personnel in a variety of laboratory duties.
• Planning schedules for laboratory meetings, retreats, and activities for visitors.
• Providing support to research projects by arranging and maintaining materials and supplies in hospitals in a timely manner.
• Consulting with faculty to determine equipment purchase priorities based on budget, condition of existing equipment, and scheduled laboratory activities.
• Arranging shipment and receiving samples and materials to outside collaborators.
• Preparing and putting in place equipment scheduled for use.
• Demonstrating use and care of equipment to research personnel in the laboratory.
• Maintaining research databases using scientific software.
• Arranging service calls for equipment.
• Diagnosing equipment malfunctions and dismantling and repairing equipment.
• Conferring with faculty periodically to evaluate new equipment and methods.
• Serving as biosafety officer for the laboratory or department.
• Performing other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Requirements include:

• Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
• Five years of relevant experience, with prior supervisory experience.

Preferred qualifications include:

• Master's degree in basic science or in a related field.
