Position Summary

The Director, Indirect & Commercial Procurement plays a pivotal role in driving material procurement strategies that support Empower Pharmacy's mission of expanding access to quality, affordable medications. This role ensures continuity, cost-efficiency, and compliance across all indirect and commercial material categories. With a focus on innovation, collaboration, and operational excellence, this leader will influence strategic sourcing, vendor partnerships, and digital transformation, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to advance the performance and scalability of a compounding pharmaceutical environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads the development, implementation, and continuous refinement of strategic sourcing initiatives across all indirect spend categories, including facilities, marketing, office services, and professional services, to drive cost optimization and supplier performance.
  • Manages commercial material procurement planning, ensuring optimal inventory levels and compliance with Food and Drug Administration, Drug Enforcement Administration, and current Good Manufacturing Practices requirements.
  • Cultivates and strengthens strategic vendor partnerships to enhance service reliability, drive innovation, reduce total cost of ownership, and enable scalability aligned with Empower's growth trajectory.
  • Collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to ensure procurement strategies are fully integrated with organizational goals, regulatory standards, and financial targets.
  • Champions the adoption of advanced procurement technologies, including AI and analytics platforms, to improve spend visibility, forecasting accuracy, supplier risk management, and data-driven decision-making across the procurement lifecycle.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and lead cross-functional initiatives in a fast-paced, evolving organization.
  • Proficiency in procurement systems and Enterprise Resource Planning platforms such as Systems Applications and Products in Data Processing or Oracle, with advanced Excel and data analysis capabilities, including experience deploying AI or machine learning tools in procurement, spend analysis, or supply risk management.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, or supply chain management within a pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or regulated environment, including 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business administration, engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM); Project Management Professional (PMP); Six Sigma Certification preferred.
