This innovative center will have the capacity to produce 300 million pounds of custom-formulated feedstock per year and convert it into ISCC-PLUS-certified feedstock suitable for mechanical and advanced recycling applications.

Role Summary

The Electrical & Controls Project Engineer will serve as a key member of the project delivery team, supporting the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of electrical infrastructure, power distribution, and automation systems for Cyclyx's industrial processing facilities.

This role will lead efforts related to low and medium-voltage power systems, motor control centers (MCCs), instrumentation & controls, and utility coordination. The ideal candidate has experience working with EPCs and design consultants and is comfortable navigating electrical studies (ETAP, load flow, harmonics, short circuit, arc flash, etc.) and developing design packages for heavy industrial environments

Key Responsibilities

  1. Electrical Systems Design & Coordination
  • Serve as the technical lead for electrical power systems from utility service entrance to equipment-level distribution.
  • Support the development of one-line diagrams, panel schedules, cable tray layouts, and lighting/power plans.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with internal and external engineering teams, ensuring alignment with process and mechanical requirements.
  1. Power Distribution & Motor Control Systems
  • Specify and support the procurement of MV/LV switchgear, transformers, panelboards, VFDs, and MCCs.
  • Evaluate and review vendor packages for compliance with electrical specifications and project goals.
  • Drive integration of power and controls infrastructure to support mechanical and process systems.
  1. Instrumentation & Controls
  • Contribute to the design and specification of field instrumentation (flow, temperature, pressure, level, etc.) and control systems.
  • Support controls integration efforts including PLCs, HMIs, and networking to ensure operational visibility and performance.
  1. Electrical Studies & Analysis
  • Review and interpret power system studies such as ETAP (load flow, short circuit, arc flash), harmonic mitigation, grounding, and load calculations.
  • Coordinate with third-party engineering firms to guide study scope, inputs, and acceptance of deliverables.
  1. Utility & Site Power Interface
  • Manage coordination with utility providers for new service installations, including load estimates, point of interconnection, and submittals.
  • Ensure incoming power design aligns with facility needs and future expansion requirements.
  1. Construction & Commissioning Support
  • Oversee electrical installation in the field, resolving technical issues and supporting quality assurance efforts.
  • Lead or support commissioning and energization of major electrical systems in alignment with commissioning plans and startup strategy.
  • Work with automation and controls vendors during I/O checkout and system validation.
Experience & Qualifications
  • 5-10 years of experience in electrical or controls engineering for industrial facilities (e.g., recycling, manufacturing, oil & gas, or heavy industry).
  • Proficient in electrical design principles, low/medium voltage systems, arc flash standards, and NEC/NFPA codes.
  • Strong familiarity with MCCs, VFDs, transformers, and grounding schemes.
  • Experience working with EPCs, engineering consultants, and utilities.
  • Controls experience (PLCs, SCADA, instrumentation) is a strong plus.
  • Exposure to startup/commissioning and field integration is highly valued.
Education & Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • EIT or PE license preferred.
  • Experience with ETAP or SKM Power Tools is a plus.
  • ISA or automation certifications a bonus.

Position Mechanics

Reports to: VP, Project Engineering

Type: Exempt; Full-time

Location: Houston, TX

Work environment: On-site project-based role, with a combination of office and field presence.

Travel: up to 30%, including to vendor facilities and utility offices.

Physical Demands: Varied between work performed in an office environment to that of equipment operators. Must be able to work in and around active construction sites with appropriate PPE.
