CliftonLarsonAllen (CLA) Search has been retained by Methodist Retirement Communities to identify a Chief Financial Officer to serve their team. Methodist Retirement Communities (MRC) is a faith-based, non-profit organization that has been serving senior adults for over 60 years. MRC provides quality housing and healthcare services to older adults, guided by their commitment to a not-for-profit ministry. They have expanded to include 13 communities in 9 Texas cities, offering a range of services from independent living to skilled nursing care. MRC's mission is to honor and serve older adults as an expression of Christ's love.

What You'll Do:

  • Arranges audits of the financial records of the organization and its related organizations.
  • Responsible for keeping the President informed on the financial climate affecting operations of the organization and its related organizations, and planning for any changes indicated to fiscal and financial strategies, decisions, policies, procedures and systems of the organization and its related organizations.
  • Responsible for obtaining needed feasibility studies on projects under development within the MRC system and for working with all parties (e.g., accountants/auditors, consultants, attorneys, investment bankers, contractors, et al.) involved in costing, evaluating, licensing, financing, insuring, marketing and constructing such communities.
  • Responsible for identifying and arranging for capital necessary to fund projects and support services authorized by MRC through cultivation of strong relationships with banks, relevant governmental and institutional funding sources, charitable contributors, etc.
  • Working through the Finance Department employees (and through the Accounting staff of each Campus within the MRC system), Incumbent researches, makes recommendations on, and implements approved policies, operational procedures and changes thereto.
  • Responsible for coordinating the preparation of the annual budget of the organization and its related organizations. Responsible for preparing analyses of financial statements to reflect variance in income and expenditure from the budget and previous periods.
  • Prepares the annual budget for the Finance Department and submits to the President for review, prior to inclusion in the organization's total budget as submitted to the Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for administering the Department within the approved budget.
  • Responsible for recording the payroll, including wage/salary payments and related record keeping.
  • Responsible for maintaining a vigilant and active collections effort and for advising the President, timely, of all delinquent accounts on a regular basis.
  • Responsible for maintaining chart of accounts to provide accurate cost accounting of expenses and income and to comply with Federal, State and/or local regulations.
  • Responsible for the overall structure, implementation and ongoing administration of accounting and inventory records, and for the management information systems used in the Central Services office and throughout the various Campuses and/or satellite offices.
  • Prepares periodic and ad hoc financial and statistical statements as required or approved by the President.
  • Responsible for adequate internal controls to ensure that generally-accepted accounting practices are followed, in accordance with GAAP's and/or FASB rules.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records and control on all equipment and assets of the organization and its related organizations.
  • Prepares required reports to governmental and private agencies and/or to other parties, as approved by the President.
  • Pursues a program of continuing education in financial and systems management to maintain, strengthen and broaden his/her ability as the Chief Financial Officer of the organization and its related organizations.
  • Performs other related work as assigned by the President.
  • Exhibits a professional, courteous and service-oriented demeanor to fellow staff, business contacts, visitors, families and, especially, to the residents.
  • Exhibits and demonstrates a complete commitment to the philosophy of the organization and those it serves.
  • Shall not be eligible for leave during hurricanes and other disasters.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; Master's degree or CPA preferred.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in financial management, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, financial regulations, and grant management.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data and present it in a clear and actionable manner.
  • Proven track record in budgeting, financial forecasting, and strategic planning.
  • Strong ethical standards and a sense of integrity.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse environment and foster partnerships with stakeholders.
