Description:

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: This role is focused on developing, analyzing, and modelling operational, economic, management, accounting, and other organizational data to quantify the competitive performance operations, evaluate potential operational changes, and design new approaches and methodologies. This role's responsibility includes analyzing organizational data to recommend and implement solutions from PoC to MVP and beyond, quantifying the competitive performance of the operations and/or markets, and modeling and evaluating the potential impact of changes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Designs and participates in the end-to-end model process of analyzing large structured, semi-structured, and unstructured datasets, developing models, implementing solutions and monitoring outcomes. Incorporates findings and provides industry and competitor insights as part of model development and enhancement.
  • Combines business acumen with mathematical capabilities to develop and fine-tune state-of-the-art across a variety of insurance-related applications with some guidance.
  • Works closely with business partners and stakeholders to identify critical questions and build hypotheses; develops problem definition, analytical approach, and determines best approach to address business issues.
  • Translates technical analyses and results into simple visuals and actionable items for business partners.
  • Participates in the selection of research tools and technologies, design of a common research process, and brainstorming new opportunities and methodologies.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Researches and maintains awareness of industry best practices and business strategies.
  • Proactively brings in new and innovative ideas and approaches to develop business solutions.
  • Monitors industry and competitor trends to determine potential impact to predictive models.
  • Identifies, leverages, develops, and demonstrates expertise in emerging technologies, open-source tools, and harnesses advanced machine learning techniques (e.g., GBM, Decision tree, Random Forest, NLP).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two to four years of experience.
  • Supervisory/management experience not required.
  • Additional Qualifications:
    • A master's degree will be considered in lieu of one to two years of experience.
    • Must have strong communication and people skills.
    • Proficiency in emerging technologies, programming languages suitable for database access, scripting, and statistical analysis (i.e., SQL, SAS, Python, R) and new modeling techniques. Understanding of software development best practices including source control, coding standards and testing framework.
    • Experience working with large, complex datasets using big data technologies and scripting.
    • Experience formulating, approaching, analyzing, and solving analytical problems using a quantitative, scientific approach.
    • Solid knowledge and understanding managing data to scale using data summarization, query and analysis software and tools.
    • Experience in insurance-related applications preferred.

OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The position requires the ability to effectively communicate with others to exchange information.
  • A person in this position normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work and receives general instructions on new assignments.
  • The position requires physical presence in company office on a part-time or full-time basis.
  • No adverse working or environmental conditions expected.
  • This position is an Individual Contributor.
