Job overview:
The Buyer/Purchasing will oversee and optimize the purchasing operations by managing the acquisition and ensuring the continuous availability of our imported products but also materials, equipment and related items (such as boxes, caps, displays, etc) for Canada and US. The primary objective of this role is to improve the efficiency of our purchasing process through effective resource planning, inventory management, and supplier relationship management. Key responsibilities include coordinating procurement processes, maintaining supplier communications, and leading negotiations on pricing, delivery schedules, and quality standards.
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years experience in purchasing within the food, food ingredients, beverage industry or consumer packaged goods.
Responsibilities and duties:
· Manage purchasing related to production activities, including but not limited to forecasting our production needs and working with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery, stockout reports and overseeing purchasing of long lead inventory.
· Manage and control all the company's external suppliers with emphasis on the purchase of our products, finished parts and/or related items for production
· Ensure parts and materials are acquired at the most competitive price and delivered on time for production
· Identify new suppliers, agree terms and negotiate supply agreements where appropriate, including discount structure, volume rebates and shipping costs
· Continuously improve purchasing methods and drive down external spending
· Work closely with marketing and operational teams
Skills and qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Commerce, Business or a related field.
· 3 - 5 years of purchasing or procurement experience within the food, beverage industry or retail industry
· Full understanding of domestic and international purchasing
· Familiar with all methods of shipping, freight forwarders, carriers and shipping lines, domestic and international
· Knowledge of price levels, competitive forces, and legislative rulings that affect these sectors of the marketplace
· Excellent negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills
· Intermediate or greater skills in MS Office Suite (especially Excel)
· SAP knowledge - advantage
· Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
