Mission or Goal of Unit: Themission of the VCU Division of Cardiothoracic surgery is to both provide the Mid-Atlantic'smost advanced, patient-oriented, cost-effective and safe cardiothoracicservices, as well as to create the finest training environment for the region'sfuture cardiothoracic specialists. Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University andVCU Health System is recruiting for an open rank, collateral, term trackfaculty position to serve as the Division Chair for Cardiothoracic Surgery.This position serves in a key leadership role within the department and PauleyHeart Center for a marque program of international reputation. In addition toleadership responsibilities, duties for this role will include clinicalresponsibilities in all areas of advanced cardiothoracic surgery. Additionally,this position will support the division in teaching responsibilities at the VCUMedical Center and will further drive the growth of research within thedivision and department.
Position Responsibilities:
Administrative: As Chair for the Division ofCardiothoracic Surgery, responsibilities will include and will not be limitedto the management of a growing cardiothoracic multi-disciplinary practice atmultiple locations and administrative management of the Division ofCardiothoracic Surgery. This position will also be responsible for mentoringjunior faculty. Philanthropy and development are an essential part of thisrole.
Clinical: Clinical responsibility will be in the care of thecardiothoracic patients on the MCV campus of VCU, as well as communityfacilities. They will be responsible for the development of an active surgicalpractice, with the support of the Division and Department's leadership.
Teaching: Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities for CTsurgery fellows, general surgery residents as well as medical and undergraduatestudents. Will be responsible for mentoring cardiothoracic fellows with gradedsurgery responsibilities.
Research: Faculty member will establish clinical research projects withmedical students and residents to establish evidence-based practice outcomes inthe areas of cardiothoracic surgery. Opportunities for intramural andextramural funding will be explored with a goal towards extramuralfunding. Collaboration with basicscience faculty in Surgery, Pauley Heart Center and School of Medicine will beencouraged.
Service: Faculty member will serve on departmental, College, and/orUniversity committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity intheir field, e.g., reviewer, conference organizer, etc.
